SERVICE DELIVERY AWARD
We're very pleased and
honoured to be finalists
in the Westpac Auckland
North Business Awards 2011
This year's finalists are now eagerly awaiting the
announcement of the winners at the prestigious
Gala Dinner. One company that understands the
excitement, prestige and honour better than most --
last year's supreme winner, EasiYo Products Limited
will be there to share in the evening, this time as a
sponsor. CEO Paul O'Brien shares his thoughts on
the awards experience.
Firstly, what made you enter the 2010
Well it started in 2009, when I worked for Good
Health Ltd. I entered and won the Excellence in
Exporting category and thoroughly enjoyed the
experience. When I joined EasiYo I wanted to achieve
the same level of recognition for this company.
What was it like being a finalist in 2010?
It was a lot of fun! We particularly enjoyed the
judges' site visit and being able to show them
what we had described in our entry. We loved the
recognition we received from the media and our
customers and many people commented that they
had seen our success in the paper.
Describe the moment you won the 2010
Westpac Supreme Business Excellence
Earlier in the evening when we won the Excellence
in Exporting category, we thought that was our bit
-- so much so that I had only prepared one speech.
So when we were announced as the supreme
winner we were absolutely stunned. Once we had
congratulated each other we realised we needed
to get up on stage to accept the award and make a
What benefits have you seen since your
win last year?
Overwhelmingly the biggest benefit has been
credibility. The awards are widely recognised as an
important benchmark so the win meant customers,
suppliers and our own team realised that we do
know what we are doing! For our customers in
particular it adds an interface where we are seen to
be a successful company.
How did the win affect your staff?
We celebrated the win together with a staff
morning tea and I guess it gave the wider team the
knowledge that management does know where the
company is going.
The win was a source of great pride. It has given
the whole team the desire to raise the barrier
further, stamp out mediocrity, and keep pushing the
envelope to achieve even better results.
Why did you decide to sponsor the awards
It was mainly for philanthropic and leadership
reasons. We decided it was the perfect way to
give back to the business community and share
the awards excitement. We wanted to inspire small
companies to aim high to achieve their potential
-- after all EasiYo was once a small venture run out
of a garage. I personally have had lots from the
awards so I wanted to give something back.
What value do you see in the awards?
There's huge value in entering and sponsoring the
awards. We gained a huge amount of credibility,
recognition in the media and acceptance from the
business community, customers, staff and suppliers.
There is a huge feel good factor from the whole
Any advice for this year's finalists/winners?
Definitely prepare more than one speech! With
more than 600 people staring at you, it's not always
easy to string a sentence together -- a prepared
speech is a great help. Remember to acknowledge
